Shared Ownership Valuations

You will have to get a shared ownership valuation carried out by an RICS Registered Valuer when you are either selling your property or staircasing (increasing your share in 10% increments, hence reducing the amount of rent you pay on the remaining share). The RICS Registered valuer will provide a market value for the sale or purchase of your percentage share in your property.

Housing associations stipulate that you must do this to determine how much the next share will cost you (staircasing) or what price your property – and therefore your stake in the property – will be sold for. In the majority of the cases the Housing Associations will require the RICS surveyor to be registered as a valuer and also that the firm is regulated by the RICS directly.
